Oktoberfest '12: Landel's Minecraft Build by Madred and Amaraq

Title: Landel's Damned Minecraft Model Construction First Floor Beta Edition
Artist: Madred // [personal profile] madredhattie  and Amaraq // [personal profile] amaraqwolf
Picture count:  44
Rating: G
Characters: The Once-ler, Skulduggery, Scar, Loki, a cow
Notes: The next time I say, "hey, let's build a model of Damned in Minecraft! It'll be fun and we can do it easily!" I should be slapped because when you put in at least 25 combined hours of work and you still haven't even managed to completely fill in all the walls and ceilings of the first floor, you've bitten off way more than you can chew.

So we had hoped to get it all done before entering (wishful thinking), but real life problems conspired against us and frankly I'm impressed we even managed to get as much done as we did.

The only outside program we used was World Paint to make sure we would have a large area of flat terrain without a ridiculous cavern system beneath it to build on.  Other than that, every single block was placed by hand.

So, ONWARD

First off, aerial views!

M: These were taken with the render distance set to 'Far'.  So we could actually see the whole thing.
A: I don't have anything to say about this.

M: And this is what it looks like when the render distance is normal.
A: We had the render distance set to normal during construction, and there were times when we would get lost so we had to put a south arrow to orient ourselves.  Madred fails at taking pictures.
M: Hush.

M: The entry hall!  It's not furnished yet because time constraints.
A: The sign has a story behind it.  Basically I was running on battery life while we were filling in the carpeting, and I was hoping to finish the whole room before my battery died, but in the end it died RIGHT BEFORE I could place the final carpet block.
M: I put a sign up to commemorate this historic (and hilarious) event.

M: The waiting rooms have green carpet.  Again, unfurnished.  We're going to finish it as time goes, though!

M: And the main hallway!  It's very long.  And the ceiling isn't done yet, whoops.
A: The whole thing turned out to be a lot bigger than we thought.  So take the scale with a grain of salt.

M: The stairs that will go up to the second floor when we get that done.  It'll be an expansion pack.  Or something.
A: Landel's Damned 2: Electric Boogaloo.  NOW WITH THE BASEMENT!
M: THAT'LL BE THE SECOND EXPANSION PACK.
A: ...we really overreached.

M: Patient block hallway! AKA the only thing that is actually completely finished.
A: They used to be full of monsters until we turned difficulty to peaceful.
M: After two creeper incidents that destroyed a good portion of our work, we thought it was for the best.

M: This shows the patient hallways of the block hallway.  It's the F-Block, by the way.

A: Yes, we did every single room. Every single room looks the same.
M: ALL 160 OF THEM.
A: And the doors actually lock from the outside!
M: Controlled by a single switch.

M: Here we have the courtyard.
S: Those bamboo sticks were my mortal enemy. THEY KEPT GROWING BACK. I had to keep chopping them down to knee level about five or six times during an in-game day. Which, for the record, lasts half an hour.
M: It was absurd.  Also they're sugar cane.

M: Doot doot doot we didn't finish the walls of the doctor offices hehehe.

M: The X-ray control room!
A: Those switches should not have been so much fun to pull.  They didn't actually do anything.
M: We were thinking of Link and Sora's not knowing how to work an x-ray machine and deciding to just pull random levers.

M: The Medical Wing in all its overly complicated lighting glory!
A: We'll explain the weird little colored rectangles in a minute.

M: The Sun Room!  It's BIG.
A: And BLUE!

A: ...with a glass CEILING!

M: The Library!  This is actually one of the rooms I'm the most proud of.
A: I'm going to let Madred explain because it is her pride and joy.  Her idea.  She made it work.

M: Hm, what is this mysterious lever?  What if we flip it....

M: JKDSFHKLSJDFHKJD
A: ...That is not explaining.
M: The secret panel opened oooOOOooooOOOooooo
A: ....

A: And the secret staircase leads up to....

A: ...a non-existent third floor.
M: It is a mystery.  Also unfinished. Expansion pact 3. Revenge of the Damned Minecraft Creepers.

A&M: Bulletin Board!
M: The box has signs in it.  You take one out, and post in on the wall, and type a message!

M: Example.
A: I had no idea Madred did that.  I'm laughing over here.

M: The music room.
A: It's cool.  Those are music boxes. You hit them and they make musical notes!
M: There's also a jukebox with CDs!

M: And here we have the Walk-in Fridge!
A: There's a great story behind it.
M: Will tell at the end.

M: Another lever???
A: Madred loves her levers.

M: Basement this way! (WIP)

M: This controls the lighting.  Every single light in the hallways (those weird glowing yellow and black boxes) is connected to this pillar.  They can be turned off and on with the flip of a lever.

M: MOD PIT.
A: Light and door controls are here.  You can turn off all the lights at once as well as open and close the patient block doors at once.  Difference between Nightshift and Dayshift!  Not to mention, monsters only spawn in the dark in Minecraft.

A: Case in point.
M: They're both on so we can see what we are doing as well as get into the patient rooms without breaking down the walls.
A: It's really kind of awe-inspiring if you think about it.
M: Awe-inspiring in that it has single-handedly made me want to never see another red stone wire again.

M: And of course, the scale!  That's me (yes, my character is dressed as the Once-ler), and that's a block, and that's a hole in the wall where a block goes.  It's... really big.
A: I was Skulduggery.  Not that Madred saw fit to take a picture of me.
M: :/ Here, a picture of Amaraq on a server surrounded by chickens.

And now it's time for the silliness that is the Walk-in Fridge!

M: A bit of an explanation for Minecraft mechanics.  Ice melts if it's too near a light source.  I had thought this only applied to torches and not lanterns.  Well...

M: DESPAIR.
A: You should have seen her reaction when she turned around and saw the fridge flooded with waterfalls. I wish I'd taken a picture. It kind of shifted back and forth between maniacal laughter, wide-eyed shock, and borderline tears.

And finally!

M: M11 is occupied by a cow.  Sorry to Scar (TLK) and Brook, but you have a bovine roommate.  We just don't have the heart to kill it.

*Note: The entirety of the first floor is actually laid out, and carpeted, and lit.  The thing is, we really didn't want to put a bunch of pictures of unfinished rooms that have nothing in them besides walls and carpets, so we left out several shots.  However, all rooms are lit and have floors.

So yeah.  Maybe, some day in the future, it will be playable.  But for now?  We're just going to keep building!
