OverDue Doyleton Post!
I am so, so sorry I didn't get this up before the buses arrived in town, but this move is kind of killing me, and I'm still hiatusing. :/
BUT! Here is all the info (I think!) you need about Doyleton! Most of this is C&Ped from the first post. :D So some of it may be repetition of the smaller post previous to this, I apologize!
First off, and I want to stress this, there will be staff everywhere in town. There will be nurses and orderlies at every turn, watching the patients. The same level of surveillance that there is during the day in the institute itself will be in the town. And misbehaving patients will be punished - there is a nurse who’s single responsibility is to stay on the bus with the misbehaving parties. ;)
They will be free to roam the town, but attempting to wander off or get into locked/restricted areas will be noticed and dealt with.
They will also be given a small packet of coupons. The coupons are as follows:
1 Free lunch at Twin Pines
1 Free facial or massage at Mystic Healing Spa
1 Free manicure at Pearl’s
1 Free Tasty Meal and Ice Cream at Tasty Burger
Every patient gets the same packet of coupons.
I’m sure you’ve noticed these are all for things that cannot be brought back to the institute. And I’m sure you’re asking ‘but how can we get our hands on potentially useful gadgets?’. That’s for your characters to figure out. ;)
Citizens of town are the same as the nurses and doctors at the institute. Powers don’t work on them, they can’t be mind read, etc etc. All the same rules apply to them. But! Remember, these aren’t actually staff members, and therefore may possibly be more open to bargaining/sympathy/etc.
It will look and feel like late fall in town. Cool air, autumn foliage, etc etc. A bit colder than last time, for patients who were there before.
While patients won’t be able to post on the Institute Bulletin - what with not being in the Institute! - they can post notes on the Public Notice Board in Callahan’s Grocers. But remember, this is a much more public venue than the institute, and nurses will be extra-strict with what they allow to be posted.
The bookstore in town seems to have much in common with the Patient Library. There’s a strange lack of non-fiction, history, etc etc.
Megahits Movies also seems to have nothing but classic films and generic after school special VHS’s for rent.
Patients will be searched before getting back on the buses, so bear that in mind!
Any questions, please ask! I may be slow in replying, but I'll try and get to everything!

As a favor, one of my characters is looking to win enough money in the casino to buy a CD player and CD for another character. (Originally they were thinking of just stealing as much from the music room, but they figure that it'll be easier to buy one and smuggle it back from Doyleton than it would be to steal one from the music room and then somehow hide it until dinner, when they could take it back to their room.) What I'm wondering is how much money they'd need for that purpose. Can you tell it's been way too long since I've bought CDs or a CD player?

And my character in question is Schuldig, so he's planning on either conning, wheedling, or stealing enough chips to get enough to buy into a game, but I don't know quite how other characters are planning on managing that...I can only speak for mine.

But a quick bit of research reveals a portable CD player would be maybe 30$, and a CD (which I guess are sold...at the electronics store? Last trip it was sort of established there was nowhere to get music, so...um....) would be $12.

And yes, Schu will definitely be on the lookout for staff members when he makes the purchase. *snerk* (The way he rationalizes it, it's easier to buy something inside and then hide it from the orderlies outside than it would be to try and smuggle out stolen items - or, at least, a stolen item the size of a CD player. If it were just the CD, he might be better off just stealing it, but as that isn't the case...) But would NPCs know a customer was a Landel's patient unless it was mentioned? I mean, they're all in plain clothes. Are they marked in some way that I've overlooked? Nametags or something?

It's the same as it was last trip: it's a tiny town and everyone knows everyone else, and all the business owners and staff are alerted that the mental home patients from up the mountain are in town, so the townsfolk are well aware of who's one of them and who's on a Landel's Field Trip. :D
Most are just polite enough not to make a big deal out of it.no subject
Well, given that a CD player and a CD are relatively innocuous purchases, do you think anyone would hassle him about them? I suppose that neatly puts the kibosh on any characters hoping to get money to buy cigarettes/booze. |D Somehow I see proprietors being extremely reluctant to sell those sorts of things to asylum patients.

It will really depend. I can't, off the top of my head, recall how friendly/accommodating to patients the electronics's store owner is. And again, it totally depends on the NPC and how they're approached. Like it says above, you never know who will be open to bargaining and have sympathy! :D I know some characters got at least cigarettes last trip, when one shop owner took a great deal of pity on them. So for specifics like that, I really can't answer in advance.

It's basically the Blockbuster equivalent of Damned!verse, so if someone wanted to actually rent a movie they'd need a membership card and ID and all that stuff.

Rule of thumb basically is: if you're interacting with anyone who isn't a patient, it's done by an NPC mod.

If not, it's not a huge deal, and Shiki will suggest one of the park benches or a random nearby tree. :)

Anyway, as you know most people have devided the Doyleton trip into three shifts of three days each. I think three days have passed right now which means it would be time for the second 'shift' (lunch in this case), right? Unfortunately, I'm running into a bit of a problem here. Due to threads moving slowly my characters have barely disembarked, which means it's going to take a little while before they will reach some sort of meeting spot, thus making the other person I had agreed to thread with wait. Unless my characters would run off now in the middle of a conversation, but that'd be a little unrealistic, and then do some thread-jumping until reaching their destination. They aren't that hungry.
My question is; is it allowed to somehow 'backthread'? Like posting at the meeting place while still finishing the previous thread - which will of course lead to the character going to aforementioned meeting spot?
I hope that made sense? THIS MIGHT SEEM LIKE A STUPID QUESTION, but I thought I'd check with you before doing it. :/
And sorry for making this long, too D:

So...uh...gah, I really don't know how to answer this, honestly. I'll have to check with Court and Erin.

Anyway, sorry for bothering you with my personal lack of organization though.
At least I know not to devide the Doyleton shift and promise threads to people next time? D: *facepalms*no subject
It's okay, don't worry about it! It's mostly my fault due to having to go on hiatus during the whole trip thing.

But uhm...thanks for answering anyway! :D

What kind of stuff is on the Twin Pines restaurant menu?
And is it at all possible to wrangle some alcohol out in the process?
(Sanzo needs some, badly).
