This is related to the fact that livejournal is moving tomorrow and getting new IP addresses.

Basically, I'm not sure if I'll be able to access Livejournal anymore when it comes back up. The reason is because there's one DNS server along the line that only updates every once in a while, and so I have no idea if I'll be able to access the site at all, as the DNS server will report the old IP address. AND I know that the DNS server just updated itself, because I can actually access my family's web page now (♥!!!!) by something other than IP address, so it might be a while.

SO if that happens, I'll let someone know. I'm hoping I don't have to declare a week-long hiatus, followed by a week of access (Thanksgiving Break!), followed by hiatus until winter break. D:

I'm not sure if there's anything that livejournal can do. I couldn't see any Flickr links for a month or two after it happens. I might be able to access LJ via proxy, so hopefully that'll work. I can test that out now.

:( DNS servers should update their cache every three days, not every three months.

There is often some way to clear the cache? Try resetting it? Or can you not access it somehow? >_>;

XD It's not my DNS server or computer, though. It's someone else's.

I use a proxy for all things internet because one of my cousins was sued by the RIAA and I'm super-paranoid. For browsing, I highly recommend using Tor (http://www.torproject.org/) with firefox. There's a good add-on called torbutton (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2275). It can be slow sometimes, but if it's too slow you can easily click off and on again to get a different proxy. About half of their proxies give German IPs and half give American, I've found.

Yeah, we've had one run in with the RIAA (or was it the MPAA?). Dad downloaded some movies, and they caught wind of it, so they told our ISP to terminate our service. Too bad for them that we just switched to another one a few days before! It saved us from having to pay an early termination fee, actually. Now Dad has bittorrent traffic exclusively blocked at home, save for his own computer to download WoW updates/patches. (He has a default deny firewall, which only lets in traffic that he's specifically written rules for. Even though he has to write new rules for each new computer game with online content that he or my brother gets. XD)

Hmm, I'll definitely look into that! You gotta be careful with some proxy servers, though, if you're trying to use them for bittorrent. I think some still give out your real IP address. Thanks!

Yeah, it runs slow, but I did get it to function. I'll probably only use it for certain things (er, LJ, if necessary). Not one for sending much sensitive info over the net.
