OKAY SO. After talking with Court, it occurred to me that not all Auldrantians speak Ancient Ispanian. I was thinking of having Asch post a bulletin in it, but that wouldn't even include everyone from his world.

I know that canonically some of the characters speak it. It's stated that Luke doesn't really, but what about everyone else? Asch knows at least some; chances are he's quite fluent in it, since he was an Oracle Knight.

I'm pretty sure Guy, Jade, and Van would all know it, but that's obviously up to the muns and not me. (I know, we have no Jade, BUT.) Everyone? Thoughts?

Back when I was replaying the game I remember Anise (or one of the party members) saying that learning Ancient Ispanian was a pretty common practice (at least for higher ups).

It's been a while since I went through the game though, so I can't remember the exact quote. D8 However, it wouldn't surprise me if everyone but Luke knew how to speak/read it.

I think you may be right; I haven't played it all that recently so I'm not sure. I just remember Luke not knowing, and everyone going "ONE WHO WOULD SEIZE GLORY IS VAN" and Luke going "whaaaaaaaat D:"

I'm pretty sure at least all the playable characters except Luke knew it. They were all "!" at the whole "one who would seize glory" thing while Luke was still all "derp derp :B" about it.

I think you may be right. Best bet may be "everyone but Luke speaks this" 8D;;

Haha, yes. It's pretty much "everyone but Luke", since I always figured Ancient Ispanian was just that language that all the 'educated' people had to learn. (Not that we seem to see too many uneducated characters but still.)

Though, wouldn't writing in the uh, fonic script work? Or since that's a main language that wouldn't work, would it? bah, damned and your complicated language magic rules. 8(

Oh, that could work then! I just get confused with the whole language rule thing so, Asch would have to put in a concentrated effort to focus on it being Fonic so it doesn't turn out readable to everyone, right? ~~lala, n00b, lala~~

I think it'd be more like Asch needing to make an effort to put it in Ancient Ispanian so it doesn't turn out readable to other people. Since Fonic is his main language, a message written in that would be readable to everyone, regardless of how much thought or concentration he put into it.

I was thinking writing in fonic would work fine, but the jury's still out on whether he'd be able to do that, since the universal translator function and all.

Hey, I just noticed your post on the boards.

Last time I checked, when it came to the Bulletin, it did not matter what language you wrote something in, everyone would be able to read it in translation. That is how people are able to understand anything that is written on the boards despite there being Landel knows how many languages really being displayed up there.

You might want to double check with the mods concerning it (I'm just a lowly player here), but that has been my experience with the boards, and I would hate for there to be any confusion resulting from it.

I talked to Court about it before, and I thought it was all right? If it's not, I guess then it just has to be in normal speech. 8D;;

I'm pretty sure the language guidelines say first languages (Fonic for these characters) are all translated, and second languages (Ancient Ispanian in this case) are not, so they're unreadable to non-speakers.

I thought so as well.
