As some folks may know, there is a fundie group going around reporting all journals and communities that have any illegal sexual acts listed in their interests to LJ Abuse. And since having illegal activities listed in your interests is against the TOS, those journals are permanently suspended by LJ for legality reasons.

RP journals have been hit pretty hard. So if anyone has anything along the lines of 'incest' or 'bestiality' or anything in that vein in any of their RP journal interests (or personal journal interests), it would be a wise idea to remove them or else risk losing your journal.

Obviously, an RP journal or listing these things for fic preferences (or shock value or protest or whatever) is in no way advocating the activity or proclaiming you support it in RL. But because of the interests search function it makes LJ liable - as 'listing an interest enables other people also interested in a similar topic to gather and/or congregate'.

And there you have it.

Someone who had a couple of her RP journals shot down. Interests listed as problematic? In particular, the interests that you had listed on your two journals' profiles that qualify as expressing interest in, soliciting, or encouraging illegal activity were: child abuse, human sacrifice, kidnapping, killing, murder, paedophiles, paedophilia, rape, and beating people up.

I'm pretty sure in that case, it was a case of LJ Abuse being alerted to the child abuse/rape/pedo stuff and finding the other stuff. Since legally, they'd have to address all illegal stuff in the LJ interests.

I feel really bad for the LJ Abuse team, having to do all this shit. :/

There was a rumor/hoax before the weekend that LJ was going to purge a bunch of journals that had any unlocked NC-17 material.

This is something different, and it is not a hoax. There's a list of all suspended journals and comms, as well as many a posted emails from LJ Abuse concerning the situation. You can check femmequixotic's LJ for more detailed info, as well as an email from LJ Abuse concerning her community which was suspended.

No, it's really not. I do it just for the hell of it, and because I hate having blank spaces after the headings/titles/whatever you want to call them. But that's probably a pretty good way to go about it, leaving them blank.
