Actually, in retrospect I think I'm being overly hopeful; I'd like to think he wouldn't hide himself away at the prospect of changing, but I don't think he's secure enough in his ability to resist it to be willing to risk endangering people like that.

So never mind! I'll go with option A, and maybe have another chance for something similar down the road. Cheers!
