Big Damn Field Trip Information Post!

Hokay! Here it is! The Big Damn Field Trip Post!

First off, and I want to stress this, there will be staff everywhere in town. There will be nurses and orderlies at every turn, watching the patients. The same level of surveillance that there is during the day in the institute itself will be in the town. And misbehaving patients will be punished - there is a nurse who’s single responsibility is to stay on the bus with the misbehaving parties. ;)

The way this will be set up as far as posting goes is the same as Nightshift. There will be a single post for each place. Post titles work the same way, threading, etc. Everyone’s been through a nightshift, I believe, so you should be all set.

How the day will begin: your character will be woken up by a nurse as usual. But instead of being ushered to breakfast, they will be given a change of clothes (YES! REAL CLOTHING!) and a muffin and juice box and told to get ready for their trip. The clothes: think Goodwill Donation Box. Nothing fancy, nothing particularly nice, everything from our present day. They will be loaded on big yellow school busses and driven the short way down the mountain into town. I’m not entirely sure yet if we’ll be RPing the bus ride down or not.

They will also be given a small packet of coupons. The coupons are as follows:

1 Free lunch at Twin Pines
1 Free facial or massage at Mystic Healing Spa
1 Free manicure at Pearl’s
1 Free Tasty Meal and Ice Cream at Tasty Burger

Every patient gets the same packet of coupons.

I’m sure you’ve noticed these are all for things that cannot be brought back to the institute. And I’m sure you’re asking ‘but how can we get our hands on potentially useful gadgets?’. That’s for your characters to figure out. ;)

Citizens of town are the same as the nurses and doctors at the institute. Powers don’t work on them, they can’t be mind read, etc etc. All the same rules apply to them. But! Remember, these aren’t actually staff members, and therefore may possibly be more open to bargaining/sympathy/etc.

It will look and feel like mid-fall in town. Cool air, autumn foliage, etc etc. In fact, the town itself will be decked out for Halloween. (Nurse-provided clothing will be weather appropriate.)

The field trip will last the same length as a normal dayshift.

While patients won’t be able to post on the Institute Bulletin - what with not being in the Institute! - they can post notes on the Public Notice Board in Callahan’s Grocers. But remember, this is a much more public venue than the institute, and nurses will be extra-strict with what they allow to be posted.

The bookstore in town seems to have much in common with the Patient Library. There’s a strange lack of non-fiction, history, etc etc.

Megahits Movies also seems to have nothing but classic films and after school special VHS’s for rent.

Patients will be searched before getting back on the busses, so bear that in mind!

All patients will be going.

For folks who are hiatusing or won’t be able to post until later, you can just have your character sleeping on the bus until you can post. The nurses aren’t so cruel as to wake up some poor patient who really needs some extra sleep. ;)

I am sure there are things that you guys will think of that I haven’t, so do not hesitate to ask any questions!

Just a note--since there will be multiple locations for a duration of time, the location links for Doyleton will be up on [livejournal.com profile] damned_links to avoid multiple locations and searching! ^^

All righty, questions~:

Clothing is non-fancy, but is it up to the patient to decide the manner of clothing they are actually wearing? Good Will things can get downright interesting at times! (and shirt's can say the darndest things, you know!)

There's... more than one bus. Will the busses be designated (1, 2, 3, 4, etc...) for those bad parties with a nurse assigned to each bus? Each "bad party" bus will have separate threads, yes?

For those younger pateints, are they really being allowed to roam about freely through an unfamiliar town? I don't know that the staff would allow younger patients to be alone like that? (Then again, I don't know how tight the watching is going to be...)

Tis it, for now~ *can't think of anything more* Feel free to beat me down for asking mucho questions as well, FeyFey~ <33

So we might not be rping the trip? Just wanted to ask, because in the Head Doctor's announcement, he said he'd be on one of the buses.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on with that exactly yet, but I will edit the post once it's set in stone.

Would the coupons be such that only patients could use them (like, are they marked as just for the patients) or would they look like something that could be traded to someone in the town? ^^

OH YES! THANK YOU!

They all have the Landel's Institute Happy Face on them.

How thoroughly would a patient be searched, just wondering?

[identity profile] continuum.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
So would patients even be able to go to a place like the bar? D: *is looking at the Crossroader's Bar and Casino*

Or is it, since they've got no money, they essentially wouldn't be let in? Or would they be let in, but just can't get wasted buy a drink?

[identity profile] continuum.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, okay. \o/ Awesome.

[identity profile] chaneystarr.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
If our characters have occupations as thieves - and are actually good ones - can they get away with slipping stuff out and finding ways to smuggle things back perhaps? XD *coughs* I haven't planned anything yet, but if Max finds something helpful, she might be tempted. >.>

You will have to check with me on the details. :D It depends on the thing and where it is and etc etc.

[identity profile] chaneystarr.livejournal.com 2007-10-22 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Okies, will. XD

[identity profile] melting.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
According to the intercom:

In any case, that's all for today except for our four patients who will be undergoing some special sleep studies tonight, and who can of course skip the field trip tomorrow if they feel they're not up to the task!

Found here. (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/213539.html)

UHH will the nurse still pry my poor surgery patient (Ashton) out of bed to go to Doyleton, or will it be possible to take a later bus?

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
They could still go if they think they're up to it though, right?

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sweet!

[identity profile] sasuke-of-sound.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
So -- er -- forgive me if that has already been covered, but townsfolk will be played like the doctors and nurses usually are? In other words, do they only get NPCed if we ask for them (i.e., we're free to NPC some of them ourselves if it's not really important or somehow plotty), or do we have to ask for any townsfolk interaction? 8D

Also. OMG EEEEE SO EXCITED SA;LDKFAJ!!!! ♥
