And as to not spam the lounge, a meme that floated around the journals a couple of months ago, but I can put it here too.

I'd say that his intellect, determination, and his willingness to act are his best traits. As for why, I'd say it's rather self-explanatory: L needs and utilizes all of the above in order to be an effective detective, and had he been lacking in any of them, he wouldn't be nearly as successful at what he did, nor would he be as interesting.
