Hi, I'm not a player yet-- though I've been staying up at night to read old posts, you guys are AMAZING, oh my god-- but I'm planning on submitting an application as soon as I'm allowed.

That said, I've been working on my application a bit at a time over the last week or so, and intend to continue doing so for the next as well (when I'm not busy with my college finals), and somehow "a bit at a time" has measured to 1800 words on my character's personal history. And I'm not even done yet; it'll be 2k+ at this rate.

My question: is that too detailed a history? I'm really skimming over everything he does-- and utterly ignoring a couple things not directly involved in the main plotline of the game (which is, approximately, "Character Does Stuff, Saves Galaxy!") -- but 1800 words is longer than a lot of my school papers. :D;; I don't want to do something stupid like make a mod fall asleep reading my first application, or anything like that.

The personal history section has a maximum of 3000 words, though it's more of a general guideline. It's OK if you go a little over it. You can find it all over at damned_info. Anyway, this means that 2000 words is totally okay :)

This guy (http://uqm.stack.nl/wiki/The_Captain) from Star Control 2. :3 He's a great character, if hard to pin down (the game leans heavily into roleplay, so his personality can be anything from friendly and clueless to the jerkiest jerk this side of Jerksville), and I'm hoping really hard that I get in. <3

HAHA, nah, that's not too long at all! Court and Erin are pretty thorough when they read apps, so you don't have to worry about them going to sleep while reading your application. A lot of the players here actually wrote up histories that were over 3k (one of my own included, baw), which is why they put up the 3k word limit for the last app period.

But yes, I think 1800 is a good size for any history. Good luck with your application!

Hey hey. Not a mod, but the maximum length for a character background is 3000 words so you've got room to spare. On both sides; I got a character in with under 500 words of history. >_>;
