Regarding the language issue

Given that characters from different worlds are all able to converse here with no perceived difficulty, Landel's must somehow be giving them the ability to speak the same language without actually making it seem to any of them that they're talking any differently than they always had.  That's kind of a necessary and tacit understanding for this kind of thing. 8D;

But what about the writing?  I was just thinking of this because of the library.  <_<  Should characters be able to interpret English writing like they are apparently able to speak the English language?  (I only say English because Riza's doctor would have been speaking English and he's supposedly a person from the Outside World.)

So I guess what I'm really asking is, should any of the characters ever have an issue with any of the language being used at Landel's, or is this an issue that should be altogether smoothed over as RP policy?

My question is, does that still mean that a character could manage to talk in their own original language as well?

Although a lot of people seem to like doing that, I'd like to give my official word right now that we rather they didn't. XD; This is sort of how it works: A character's main, original language that they use all the time is smoothed over as the Landel's "common-language" or whathaveyou, but if there are certain phrases they say in some other language randomly--for example, the Firefly people and Chinese, Vash from Trigun and his random German sometimes--you could throw that in in italics to keep people IC. However, if your character is Japanese, for example, wouldn't make much sense to throw in random "arigatous" and "etos" and stuff like that, since that would all have been translated to English as is. You could say "So-and-so-sensei" or "So-and-so-san" and honorifics like that, but that would about be the end of it, besides words (like "shinigami") that wouldn't really translate to English well in the first place.

What about for, like, writing and stuff? I know I had Obi-Wan writing in his journal with Aurebesh and Nelvaneese, rather than the common language of Landel's, as a security precaution in case a random patient or nurse got a hold of it. Or what if two characters wanted to converse in a specific language in order to keep other patients from overhearing them? (Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are actually multilingual due to their Jedi training, so...)

Sorry if I'm just over-thinking the whole thing, but I'm kinda curious. 8D;;
