Here, have a topping icon.

So, I'm curious, and easily bored at work. What do your characters' journal names mean?

Example! Screwthegods is pretty much Homura's attitude towards Heaven, and budgetordie is Tatsumi's attitude towards life. ^.^

Alternately, if you could have a different journal name for any of your characters, what would it be?

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm probably not an ideal person to comment on your question as my character isn't even in play yet, but you asked a question that allows me to complain about how silly Livejournal is. :P

Starting with the second your part of the question, I tried to name my journal "I_climb_beanstalks", since that brings to mind the story most people know about Jack. Sadly, LJ said it was too long. So I went with "I_slay_giants" becase Jack grew up to be the Jack from the "Jack the Giant Killer" tales.

Alternate Homura journal name could be "Stealing Konzen's monkey". :P

Jei is Farfarello's canon "real name." Nothing complicated. ^^;

[identity profile] forgot-it-all.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Forgot_it_all is a reference to Ritsuka's 10 year memory blank due to his personality switch. I would have gone with Loveless (his Sacrifice name) but that was taken. Now I'm thinking he should just be called Jailbait or Shotaball or something.

Notachick is because...well, Okita's not a chick. BUT HE DAMN WELL ACTS LIKE ONE.

[identity profile] byname-bynature.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Artemis has been described as "Fowl by name and foul by nature", so it just seemed to fit. I would have liked byname&bynature, but ampersands are a no-no. ^^;; I also debated using one of Artemis' many pseudonyms like Emmesy Squire (MC^2), and Dr. F. Roy Dean Schlippe (Freudian Slip), but I figured it'd be harder to know who it was. ^^;;

[identity profile] zalia.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ed's is lost_metal, which I guess is pretty straightforward. All of my Ed RP journals have something to do with metal 'cause of his automail, and he's kinda' lost in Landel's.

Yohji's is never_learns, which I think sums him up perfectly. He has a tattoo which says 'When you gonna' learn?' and he keeps falling in love with the wrong person, keeps making the same mistakes over and over again ^^;

Kenren's is opposingheaven, which is pretty self explanatory too ^^;

Rangiku's is fuyunohanabi, which is the title of the song on Gin's album which she and Gin duet. Means 'winter fireworks'

Byakko's is catsandsaucers, which has pretty much no reason at all ^^; Except that it came to me while I was working and I really liked it.

Talionisshinra comes from 'Lex Talionis' which means 'The Law of Revenge' which is the AIM name any of them can be found under.

Theheirshinra is pretty clear. Rufus is the heir to the Shinra legacy.

RabastLestrange comes from, duh, Rabastan Lestrange

DeathInvitation comes from Sephiroth's song, 'One Winged Angel'.

James Sunderland's dnrdni comes from the DNR/DNI order, a callback to Mary.

The Dementor's (dementorkiss) is pretty basic with that being what they do.

Haha, nice icon. :3

Sanzo's is pretty self-explanatory, but part of me wanted to get "trigger-happy-monk".

Kasady's is just how he views his bond with the symbiote.

[livejournal.com profile] ciaccona--I...honestly don't know why the hell I chose this. It's the Italian reading of "chaconne," a French musical form which is basically similar to the pasacoglia, or "variations on a theme" (FUN FACT: Pachelbel's Canon in D--which I HATE XD--isn't actually a Canon...it's a pasacoglia). As for how that relates to my jailbait!Elena...it's anyone's guess. I made the journal almost a year ago. I may have thought I was being clever back then...but now...XD;

[livejournal.com profile] just_shiny--In Firefly-verse, "shiny" is the new slang for cool/okay/happy, etc. Kaylee says it a lot. XD

[livejournal.com profile] totallytheseme--I mean, c'mon. He IS totally the seme. Plus, "totallytheattacker" was too many letters.

Qui-Gon's [livejournal.com profile] qui_gonjinn doesn't really need an explanation, other than that it was a recycled LJ I'd used in a previous RP.

Darman's [livejournal.com profile] clone_boy isn't really too creative either. He's a clone and a boy in years. I GUESS. xD

Eddie Brock's [livejournal.com profile] blacksustenance came from a Venom/Spider-man slash fanfic (same title). Black 'cause he's, uh, black as Venom and sustenance for food. That and I just suck at names, so it was random.

[identity profile] thehellismycar.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
This is Dean's journal name because canonly it throws him to not know of the Impala's whereabouts, and given the Landel's situation I'm sure it would be among the first thoughts to spring up. It's basically a member of the family. Y'know when you create a journal, and a username just appears in your mind and it sticks there? Yeah. Nothing else seemed to suit him.

Fuu's ([livejournal.com profile] seizethesun) is my way of saying she's an optimist. It's a weak play on carpe diem, seize the day. I originally doted on 'prettyinpink', but I must say I much prefer this name.

[identity profile] burningvigor.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] muted_flame: Just referring to the fact that Landel's makes Roy's alchemy SUCK. Yeah, not very creative. XD

[livejournal.com profile] scintillatingly: I actually have the definition in the userinfo, but I'll paste here:
1. Throwing off sparks. Flashing.
2. Sparkling or shining.
3. Being animated or brilliant.
Sora is full of light and is a bright sort of person, so yes. XD;; This username is sort of pretentious.

[livejournal.com profile] still_free: The opening theme song of Firefly has a line that goes, "I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me." XD;; And that whole song is basically about Mal, so... yes.

[livejournal.com profile] championofright: Also from the opening song. (I'm so creative.) Daring duck of mystery, champion of right~ Darkwing also refers to himself as the champion of right in the show a few times.

[livejournal.com profile] razing_phoenix: That's the name of Guy's Mystic Arte (awesome attack, basically) in the game. Oh, noble conflagration... Razing Phoenix! Yes. ♥

[identity profile] thehellismycar.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Y'know if you listen to the Firefly theme enough times, it becomes "You can't take this guy from me."

Kadaj's ([livejournal.com profile] divinedestiny) is... A SECRET. Actually, no, I just feel sort of stupid about how it came about, AND, if I wasn't trying to NOT spend money, I'd buy a rename token for him... maybe. But anyhow. It's from a song by Tool called "Flood." Lyrics are over here. (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Tool/Flood.html) I thought it was appropriate seeing as how Kadaj got sort of killed and then completely screwed over by being dragged to Landel's when he thought his mother was going to take him somewhere peaceful and happy where he could finally rest. See this line: "Thought the sun would come deliver me, but the truth has come to punish me instead." AND the whole water thing links in to the healing rain that Aerith sent that facilitated the whole process.

Yes. I am a dork.

AS FOR LIGHT ([livejournal.com profile] godhood), that's just his whole I WILL BE THE GOD OF THE NEW WORLD thing shining through. I was also considering the usernames "god" and "justice," but neither of them were available. Sad.

Dias ([livejournal.com profile] heavens_too_far) has a well-known angsty line in his canon. His best friend and surrogate little sister, Rena, is asking him for something; he finally agrees, however grudgingly. Rena, delighted, thanks him...and then announces that Cecille (Dias' little sister, killed along with the rest of his family some years ago in Dias' and Rena's hometown) thanks Dias too.

After Rena leaves the room, Dias muses aloud, "Heaven must be too far away...I couldn't hear her."

Schuldig ([livejournal.com profile] k4t4str0ph4l) is straightforward enough; 'katastrophal' is German, and can mean 'catastrophic', 'cataclysmic', or 'disastrous'. All words which Schuldig's actions (and the results thereof) can frequently be described by. He's practically a walking catastrophe-maker.

Waka ([livejournal.com profile] godsgift2man) is also fairly straightforward. When he introduces himself in the game, he generally refers to himself as "Waka, the gods' gift to man".

And even though I've dropped him...when I had Zell, ([livejournal.com profile] burst_knuckle) his journal name came simultaneously from his habit of fighting with his fists and from the name of a special move of a character from Dias' canon that just sounded right~

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Recluse is tartaros_avatar because his powers stem from the greek mythological figure Tartaros: One of the first five entities to be created from Chaos, and is synonymous (and the manifestation of) with the Hell of greek myths.

My new character, HK-47, has the journal name of arc_wrench. The reason is no where near as serious as the other one: It comes from one of the hilarious lines that he utters if you botch an attempt to repair him.
"Aaugh! What are you doing, Master?! Remove the arc wrench! REMOVE THE ARC WRENCH! ...medic!"

[identity profile] godsgift2man.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
One of my favorite lines ever.

[identity profile] theladyfeylene.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] lustful_thing - well, pretty obviously. Not only because Lust herself is lusted after, but she herself lusts for a human life - or she did. Now, not so much.

[livejournal.com profile] felled_hero is another pretty obviously one. Maes Hughes died a hero, in every sense of the world.

[livejournal.com profile] the_clown_king is a play on 'King of Fools' for Tamaki, because he is the king of fools. He fancies himself a lord and a knight but he's really just a dreamy teenage boy who's stuck in his own fantasy ideal of chivalrous times. All he ever wants to do is help and do good, but so often his plans are foolish and made to fail.

[livejournal.com profile] ontheabyss for Lyta comes from a poem by Lord Byron. That's an in-joke for me, because Lyta's canon lover was named Byron. But the poem, which is quoted on her journal, fits her very well. The lines 'Rayless and pathless...a fearful hope was all the world contain'd' fits her because she was, at one point, drifting and alone and the only hope to save the world. Lyta is a bleak character forever searching for somewhere to belong, and forever on the edge of her own darkness.

[livejournal.com profile] notmyfather for Valyn because his greatest fear is becoming like his father, and he's spent his entire life trying to be as different from him as possible.

[livejournal.com profile] reanalyze for Citan, who I haven't started playing yet, suits him because he is constantly reanalyzing his own life and motives throughout the game he comes from.

And of course, [livejournal.com profile] mister_radio because he is Mr. Radio. :D

[identity profile] the-hero-of-man.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Well, mine is kinda obscure/geeky, but it is from the rock Opera by the Protoman where Protoman yells at Megaman "They called me the hero, the hero of Man!"

I wanted NoHeroesLeftInMan, because Protoman yells this a number of times in the Opera, or AManWhoKnowsHesFree, because the last line of the opera is "A hero, is just a man who knows he's free" But they were too long. :( Actually, I'm really surprised a name as generic as the_hero_of_man wasn't already taken. My gain. :)

[identity profile] unmocked-lawr.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Javert's username ([livejournal.com profile] unmocked_lawr) basically comes from the musical - specifically, the song "Javert's Suicide," part of which goes -

I am the law and the law is not mocked
I'll spit his pity right back in his face

- and when Philip Quast, who's pretty much the most famous musical!Javert ever, sings it, he pronounces "law," well, "lawr." It's a bit of an in-joke in the Les Mis fandom. xD;

Hoho. I like random things inspired by easy boredom ... explains why I'm on Neopets so much lately.

Caim ([livejournal.com profile] voiceless_rage) is ... more self-explanatory than I'd like. He's mute, and he's ANGRY ALL THE GODDAMN TIME. There you have it.

Chase ([livejournal.com profile] thirdtonever) is one of those ones where I just typed something in and went YAY, IT LOOKS COOL. But, uh, it has something to do with him being one of the three main good guys waaaaay back in his day of being a good guy, and how he then sort of ... didn't live up to becoming a Xiaolin Dragon. Because he turned evil.

Crawford ([livejournal.com profile] at_patera) refers to one of Apollo's temples. And Apollo had oracles. So I was like, yeah baby, gimme summa dat.

Pyramid Head ([livejournal.com profile] thebloodyacacia) ... uh ... WHY YOU ASK QUESTIONS. I don't know. I was running through a random SH2 online strategy guide and saw some in-game mention of acacia flowers and went "PUT BLOODY IN THERE, OKAY IT'S PHEAD". Plus I wasn't creative enough to think up raperaperevolution at that point in time.

Aaaaand Kimbley ([livejournal.com profile] crimson_handed) was supposed to be yourheadasplode. Sadly that was taken. So now he's just got a similar name to Scar and Greed, continuing on the whole hand(s) thing. Also the crimson = his title, Crimson Alchemist. Erin was all helpful with this :D

Sucker For Symbolism~ <3

[identity profile] ofthisangel.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 02:06 am (UTC)(link)

[livejournal.com profile] somber_secret (Hisoka Kurosaki) is pretty much based on Hisoka's personality with how he is always serious and secretive even with those he trusts. The 'secret' part also was meant to portray how he was locked in the cellar for most of his life (to keep his empathy a secret from others) and because the kanji for his name means 'secret'.

[livejournal.com profile] entropy_effect (Naoya Kirihara)

Entropy- A measure of the loss of information in a transmitted message.

The name is basically just describing Naoya's ability to see the memories of others if touched and how, while he does see personal memories, something is always lost in the transition (whether it be his innocent view of the world or simply a memory). That and because of entropy's second definition (Inevitable and steady deterioration of a system or society.) it could also be used to show how Naoya's always busting his ass to save a steadily deteriorating society from themselves and how he's always one step behind.

...yes, I'm a sucker for symbolism

[identity profile] tsunagari.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Sai's whole reason for going against orders from ROOT to help Naruto was his interest in the bond the boy had with Sasuke. He decided to help him recover this bond. Afterwards, he took more stock in learning how to become friends with others, etc.

At Landel's, he'll be separated from all those he'd grown close to, because none of the ones there besides Sasuke will remember him. So... yeah. ^^;

1imited edition - Reference to Rein being a (unique) book and the Landel's power-limiting.

blazing general - nothing fancy, just Signum's title back when she was a slayer of men and all that good stuff. I considered 'Daughter of Surt' too (her sword, Laevateinn, takes its name from the sword used by Surt to kill Freyr and burn the world at Ragnarok in Norse myth).
