So that life thing has hit, and it means I'm generally slower in posting. A lot slower. I am so sorry to all those I'm threading with! I'll try to make up for it since I'm off the next two nights, and currently have no plans though it could change. But tonight I believe is one of the nights where I have to work, meaning I probably won't be posting tonight either.

What has fandom done to your canon or characters that makes you hurt inside? Even better, what has CANON done?

K, SO. FFVII. Fandom seems to turn Reno into a total caricature of himself and he ends up spending most of his time drunk, having sex, swearing every other word, or all three, and then it leaves you wondering if they even remember that he, you know, has a job. Or why Rufus and Tseng haven't collectively fired his ass if he's wasted and horny 24/7.

Fandom also has a habit of making Reno say "yo" every sentence, which he does not do ,yo. He doesn't even say it ever, technically, because some things in Japanese really can't be translated no matter how hard you try kthnx. See also: Tifa & the infamous zulu zulu dilly dally, my ass. *brick'd*

And, um, AC was iffy for me. I know some fans have complained he was OMG TTLY OOC, which I don't feel is an entirely accurate choice of words. I think he was IC, but it was only a part of him they showed, and they left all the other parts of his personality out -- although one thing that did irk me was how clumsy they made him. Squeenix did make it up with BC because he's much more fleshed out and closer to his game-canon self in BC. But AC in terms of fandom spawned a huge amount of fics from people who based Reno's character only on the movie which completely doesn't work since AC exaggerated his dorkiness by a lot. I feel like you really need to put both AC and game Reno together to get a full sense of who he is. And I'mma never forgive Squeenix for giving Tseng and Elena a grand total of, like, 30 sec. of screen time, voiceovers and ID cards included. Where is the love?! Plus, WTF happened to the "E" in Reno's EMR? Loz couldn't have possibly stolen all your thunder, Reno. >:[

As for Angel, Joss Whedon has not screwed with anything (in terms of his character, anyway; I will refrain from ranting about Season 4 of AtS asdjflsaj the Jasmine storyline WTF). Fandom has done many, many things to Angel, including having him pine continuously for Buffy and portraying him with zero sense of humour, which is just sad (no pun intended) because the guy can be pretty funny sometimes, whether intentionally or not. He's not a ball of angst, contrary to popular belief. I see a bit of a parallel between Angel and FFVII's Vincent when it comes to fandom because both characters can have a darkly dry sense of humour, but fandom just goes LOL WHAT HUMOUR? and makes them brood and angst all day long.

As an Angel/Spike reader and fic'cer, I do wish fandom would remember that as much as some may dislike Buffy, Darla, and/or Dru and think that Angel and Spike are OTP 4EVAR, those were important girls in both their lives. Spike got a SOUL for Buffy, for Chrissake, and stayed with Dru for over a century even though she was nuts. It sucks to see the women completely unacknowledged or, worse, bashed.

AGREED ON ALL POINTS including Season 4 asdfjlskdf. The whole hating on/ignoring women for the sake of an OTP thing is so common it burns. They either ignore that whole side of the character or ANGST ON ENDLESSLY about unrequited love until the magical healing buttsecks.

INORITE. Personally, I have a thing for fics where Angel and Spike have sex with each other but are really wishing they're having sex with Buffy because I'm twisted like that. ...Not that I've written something like this. I'm innocent, I swear. >_O;

aiken_4graphics = awesome. LOL. They had the whole office going on about it when cavemen would obviously win. Also, see current icon for what should happen if Angel ever gets MU. :|

Oh man, I'm sadness that I already got tapped for SC/MU because that would be hilarious. |D; CURSED TO BE A PUPPET ONCE EVERY WEEK or something. \o/ Also, SC would be awesome, too, because it'd make a lovely excuse to turn him into Angelus. ♥ Which would be kickass.
