Miku/Sousuke

Prompt: Safety

She's never had anyone like him before. Always the shy girl in class, easily overlooked. The freaky girl who'd obviously destroy anyone's popularity if they hung out with her. And even later, her own job, her own time and money, but she's too different to get close to someone, seen too much that most people can't even understand.

She's never longed for the burning passionate love of romantic stories because she's seen what getting close to people like that can do when it isn't tames and muted. She'll settle for distant friendship, safe. and maybe it won't make her heart pound or her breath come short whenever she sees someone, but no-one will get hurt that way.

She couldn't seem to keep that distance with him, so honest and straightforward in everything he does and maybe some of his passion had bled into her, infected her because he's red when he should be a muted cool blue.

Even drawing away doesn't work because he follows, unwilling or unable to give up his charge even if she tells him to, which she'll never do because somehow... she likes it, even if she knows that she shouldn't. She needs to tell him, to warn him and push him back to the blue end of the spectrum, safe.

It's when the name on his lips changes, that automatic reaction to the person he wants to protect, that she realises it's different with him. He's seen his own horrors, his own ghosts and maybe they're of a different type to those that she sees, but its still more than all the rest.

He understands.

It isn't the kind of fire which rages, but the kind that warms, the kind that keeps the darkness and the spirits at bay.

And slowly, he tinges the whole world with red.

heh ^^; All I know of Miku and Sousuke comes from Damned. I've never played Fatal Frame or watched Full Metal Panic ^^;
