Fourth wall ahoy!

Hey all, Eryn here! Just letting everyone know that I will soon be introducing my newest character to Damned: Scott Pilgrim!

[tumbleweed blows by]

Okay, I know he's not that well-known in this circle of the internet (he's big in the indie comics scene, I swear!). XD;; Regardless, I have an alert to post regarding him. Scott is a character whose canon is set very specifically on 2005 Earth (for the most part, certain rules about physics aside), and a majority of the media titles there are the same there as they are in the real world. On top of that, Scott is a pretty big geek, so he knows the canons of quite a few of the various fandoms that tend to pop up in panfandom games like this. You know what that means: potential canon puncturing. So here is the note I made about potential fourth wall stuff that I submitted with Scott's character application:

Scott Pilgrim is a character who could very easily break the fourth wall for certain other characters in Damned, most notably our pre-2005 video game-based characters. I am going to be very careful about canon puncturing, and won't ever use Scott's knowledge for nefarious purposes. I will always ask first when potentially canon puncturing.

At the moment, Scott is only canonically familiar with two specific fandoms currently at Landel's: Final Fantasy and X-Men. Here is a list of other fandoms currently in Landel's that he could conceivably be familiar with to varying degrees, but haven't been mentioned specifically in canon. It's definitely okay to ask for him to not have knowledge of any given title on this list for the sake of those who would rather not have any fourth wall breakage:

- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Disney
- Dragonball Z (maybe the basics)
- Fatal Frame
- Grim Fandango
- Guilty Gear
- Gundam, pre-2005 (maybe a bit)
- Indiana Jones
- James Bond
- Kingdom Hearts (1, not 2)
- Marvel and DC comics (mainstream only)
- Mega Man/Rock Man
- Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid
- Mortal Kombat
- Naruto (maybe the basics)
- Neon Genesis Evangelion (maybe a bit)
- Resident Evil
- Sailor Moon (maybe the basics)
- Sam & Max
- Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (maaaaybe)
- Silent Hill
- Star Control (maybe only a bit, since it's a PC series mainly and Scott prefers console)
- Star Ocean: The Second Story Not totally stricken, but will be careful with this one.
- Star Trek
- Star Wars
- Transformers
- Tales of Destiny
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- The Wizard of Oz
- Xena: Warrior Princess (maybe a bit)
- X/1999 (maybe a bit; Scott has had dream imagery very reminiscent of this series)

If your character is from Final Fantasy or X-Men, please comment to this post and let me know what you want in terms of puncturing. Let me know whether you prefer a little, a lot, or Scott conveniently avoiding your character until he gets it in his head that he probably shouldn't go around telling people that they're fictional.

If your character is from any of the titles mentioned on the list, please comment to this post and let me know if you want puncturing or not. If you don't mind puncturing, tell me how much you're okay with. If you do mind, then I will cross your series title off this list and mark it down as something that Scott conveniently hasn't gotten around to yet. If I get conflicting answers from different characters within the same series, we can work something more specific out.

If your character's series is not on the list (and it might not be if you're new, as I don't know how many new series came up this past round of apps), but you think it ought to be, post it here and we'll talk.

EDIT: On a side note, I have a special interaction request over on the plot post that requires a fair number of people for very short threads. Reply there if you're interested!

It's totally fine to puncture Indy's canon--it's already happened several times, and it's always a blast to do those threads.

As for Grim Fandango, I'm going to ask you not to for now. When Manny-mun comes back (probably later this month), we'll probably talk about it together and let you know if that changes. Until then, Meche's probably got enough trauma to deal with without being told she's fictional.

Figured as much for Indy. XD For Grim Fandango, no problemo! We'll avoid that for now.

Thanks! Let me know if you'd ever like to thread together--in fact, maybe a thread or even a nightshift with Scott, Peter Parker and Indy sometime? I could see that being pretty fun.

I keep hearing good things about Scott's canon; I've really gotta check it out one of these days.
eryn: (scott pilgrim - YES!)

That would pretty much be the best night of Scott's life as far as he's concerned. "Holy balls, I'm in a party with Indiana Jones and Spider-man. HOW IS THAT NOT THE BEST THING EVER?" Maybe would you like a thread for fourth shift? That's the shift I've put aside for one longer conversation, and if you want him to join for NS, it'd make sense.

You really should check it out. Go read the previews up at ScottPilgrim.com for now and get the volumes when you can. Then you'll be all set when the live-action movie comes out next year. :D

Oh, wow, I'm flattered to be offered a shift on Scott's first day. *___* If you don't mind, could I get back to you on that in a little bit? Suddenly I'm second-guessing my decision not to give him a visitor, so I'd like to think on it for a day or two if I can.

If it turns out that they don't get a chance this dayshift, I'd definitely be up for the next one. I'm interested to learn more about this guy!

Oh yeah, sure! Still lots of time until fourth shift, so take your time. If end up preferring a visitor shift, I can just have Scott bump into him and/or Peter come NS instead, or just save things until DS 44.
eryn: (que?)

[personal profile] eryn 2009-08-11 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, since it turns out that Peter wouldn't be able to join us for NS, would you still be up for having Scott go with Indy during NS, or did you want to save it until Peter can join them another night? With Peter or not, I'd love him to travel with Indy (♥), but it's your call.

[identity profile] its-the-mileage.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be up for it, sure. Would you be okay if Methos (Indy's roommate) ended up going with them too? I haven't talked to Sindaheri about NS at all, but they've usually traveled together in the past, so I thought I should ask in case Methos decides to opt in.

That'd be fine, definitely! :D Also, did you decide yet if you still want a thread for Indy and Scott in fourth shift?

[identity profile] its-the-mileage.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Indy is going to have a visitor after all, so I'm just waiting to hear what shift that'll be. I asked for third, so hopefully these two can meet up fourth. If not, I'm sure they could just stumble across each other at night--Indy will be meeting someone really quickly at the start of nightshift in the M-A block hallway, so maybe they could run into each other around there?

Jumping in to say THAT WOULD BE ONE UTTERLY HILARIOUS NIGHTSHIFT. But. Peter's taken for tonight, and I'm...trying not to book things so far ahead anymore because ;lskjdfalsk it doesn't leave you a lot of leg room. :'D I would absolutely positively be up for it sometime, but not right away? Plus Peter's gonna be really tender and pissy about fourth walling right now. "WERE YOU LAUGHING WHEN UNCLE BEN DIED? DO I ENTERTAIN YOU, BITCH??!! >[[[["

[personal profile] eryn 2009-08-11 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, sorry to hear it wouldn't be right away. :( But you're right that this team-up should happen sometime, even if we don't know when!

"Does it count if I was laughing when it was Tobey Maguire that Uncle Ben died in front of? 8D;;;"

[personal profile] tightsofmight 2009-08-11 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry man. ;__; I kinda need to start keeping a couple shifts open just in case random plottage comes up or something, which it has and I keep being all LOL SORRY GAIS I MADE PLANS AND STUFF and that's...not always fair. <<; But that said, I would love love love to do this. a;lskjfd;asldijfwi VERY YES. And I have read a bit of Scott Pilgrim because I found one on the bookshelf in the laundry room, but then my pants were done and I the laundry room creeps me out so I left. :| But he seemed kinda flaily and cute in a special kind of way? :D

"...Well it is Tobey Maguire..."

Um, actually, they did a couple issues where Sam Raimi made a Spider-Man movie starring Tobey without his permission. And Peter was PIIIIIIISSED.
eryn: (oh noes! D:)

I know how it goes. It's just so tempting to schedule oneself out completely in a game like this since the game is so large and everything else seems so highly organized. I'm trying to leave at least one shift free per day per character right now, though a newbie like Scott is an exception. The rule will apply to him as well once he gets more into the swing of things. I also don't plan my NS stuff most times, though that's more to do with the fact that I'm generally waffle-y on deciding what my characters would think is most important to get done. XD;;

And seriously? That sounds hilarious. XD

...Or he'd be all lame and give himself a failtastic fake name.

"I'm Peter Parkeeeee-INSON. Parkinson. Yes. 8D"
