I Want To Know About You(r Insides)

It's that time again. No, not hammer, miller or party time. It's tell-me-about-how-this-ability-will-affect-your-characters time! Since Stein's a doctor (...for now), this is probably only relevant if you end up as his experiment patient, but if he sees you in Doyleton or some other time, it could matter! So, without further ado, look under the cut for...

Soul Perception
Stein can see your soul. Yes, that thingy inside that's the very essence of you.

In Soul Eater, souls are very important; they're what powers pretty much everyone's abilities and what kind of "wavelength" your soul gives off says a lot about you. The size, power and quality are all different factors in your own abilities and compatibility with others. Certain people, mostly weapons meisters and demon weapons, can use Soul Perception, the ability to, as it sounds, perceive souls. While anyone can see the souls of the dead in the moments after someone dies, it takes Soul Perception to be able to see the souls of the living. At its most basic, one can simply detect a soul, it's location, existence and size. More refined Soul Perception can detect qualities about the soul like its strength, how it looks and things like if it's a human, a witch, a weapon or an animal. Stein's Soul Perception is refined enough that he can look at people's souls and even get a general feel for their personality type and current mood. A video reference can be found here at 4:55.

While in Damned, Stein will be able to use Soul Perception. However, there are a few limits: He can only view souls in detail that are right before him. Because he's part of the daytime staff, if he encounters a non-human soul, he'll simply see a human one. He can, however, still detect personality traits and mood if he's looking, which combined with his normal powers of observation, make him very perceptive and good at reading others. There are three exceptions to the "humans only" rule:
1) He will still see the souls of witches as they are. In Soul Eater, witches are female magic users that often have an animal association, though there has been a male character who stole a witch's powers. Witches are all born with their powers, though they have to work to refine them and all of them are, as their power grow, affected by the "Sway of Magic", an instinctual need to cause destruction. If your character has magic powers that they were born with, they will register as a witch. Not mutant abilities, not special abilities but blatantly magical, spells-and-sorcery magic. If they have some kind of instinctual destructive urge similar to the Sway of Magic, they may seem similar.
2) Stein can see souls that are on the path to becoming Kishin. In Soul Eater, the souls of people who commit sins and eat the souls of the innocent in order to gain power become corrupted, turning into Kishin eggs. If your character has murdered innocent people (defined as pretty much anyone who isn't a murderer or otherwise blatantly evil) and especially if they have eaten or taken in the essence of those people some how, they are on the way to becoming Kishin in Stein's eyes. I'm lookin' at you, DDS demons. Anyone who may have used to souls of the innocent for power (like, literally took their souls and used them for a power-up) also count even if they didn't directly murder them.
3) If your character does not have a soul, Stein will know this. He may be confused, but that won't change the fact he won't see a soul where there should be one. If your character is explicitly stated in canon as not having a soul, Stein will see nothing. If you are organic and your canon does not say otherwise, you have a soul. Demon, angel, whatever, unless your canon says you have no soul, you have one. If you are an inorganic, this can depend. More scientifically sound inorganics, such as Star Wars droids, definitely lack souls. The Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, or the guys from Transformers? I'm inclined to think have souls.

Basically, please post with your characters and answer the following:
1) Do they have a soul (See Exception 3)? If not, you're done!
2) A short, general description of their overall personality; basically, what Stein would be able to tell from looking at their soul. If you have some defining physical traits, those may appear as well (for example, Stein's soul has a stitches and a large screw sticking out of it). Go ahead and choose a color as well (except Purple; Purple is reserved for witches) and mention anything else you think would be apparent.
3) Does you character qualify as a witch or something similar (See Exception 1)?
4) Does your character's soul qualify as a Kishin-egg (See Exception 2)?

EDIT: So, a few more things came up:
1) A lot of people have come with the "I was killing the opposing side, am I on the path to kishin?" question. I'm going to say in war, against opposing soldiers, no. In regards to guards doing their job... that depends. Chances are, if you were one of the good guys and they started it, not really. Kind questionable. Basically, the Kishin thing is for if you killed someone not lookin' to get killed. Basically, where you killing people for the purpose of killing them for fun and/or profit, rather than self-defense or as a soldier of war just doing their job?
2) Uh, yeah, forgot to mention: Soul Eater has Shinigami. Stein will recognize those too. However, there's not a lot of canon reference for what makes a shinigami, as there have only been two. Well, we'll just go with "if you're a shinigami/death god/Reaper" in canon, he'll note you're a shinigami as well.

Not a patient, but just in case they ever run into one another...

1) Has a soul, despite his every attempt to get rid of it (... metaphorically).

2) HOW CAN I WRITE A SHORT ONE okay, um... complex, many-layered, confusing as shit. Lelouch wears a mask around just about everyone, and while he usually presents a distant, unaffected one, he's actually very passionate about... certain topics. He's very angry at the world and determined to change it. Incredibly cynical, incredibly intelligent, but still has a certain level of naivete about things. Uhhh... very tsundere? I DON'T KNOW. Loves his friends and family (some of them) and can be very idiotic in how he expresses that. Willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his ends. DOES THAT COVER IT? I DON'T KNOW. WAIT, HE'S ALSO ~*~FABULOUS~*~

Also... WELL, SINCE HE CAN'T HAVE PURPLE, blue. OR A RAINBOW. I don't think he qualifies as a witch despite all his "lololol warlock" nonsense, so. Blue? Blue. Or rainbow. I'm not really particular. (I'm thinking of that one bit in the last opening theme thing where they illuminated Zero with all those pretty different colored lights, Idk. Also, I'm just being retarded.) Yeah, let's just go with blue because Suzaku is red in that whole Red Oni Blue Oni thing they have going on. ... TV Tropes actually appears to disagree with me, BUT I HAVE AN OFFICIAL BOOK THING THAT HAS LELOUCH IN BLUE AND SUZAKU IN RED, SO I'M RIGHT, DAMN IT.

Oh, and obv. Lelouch will have a red Geass symbol thing in his left eye.

3) Not really. Geass was given to him, and not even by a witch by the standards you mentioned. You could... sort of say he has an urge to destroy (and recreate), but I'm not sure if that qualifies...?

4) He has killed maaaaaaaaany innocent people, so yeah, probably. He has done nothing with souls directly, though. That's beyond him.

EDIT: PAGE THREE HAS FALLEN INTO MY HANDS. I NOW RENAME IT... ~*~THE UNITED STATES OF PAGE THREE~*~

2) That works! Er, the symbol, not the helmet.

4) Yeah, I think in most cases it was just... collateral damage. /)_(\ Oh, Lulu. The way he sacrificed the remainder of the JLF in Shirley at Gunpoint might sort of be more intentional...? Then again, they were, well, the JLF. Not exactly innocent. OH WELL, IT DOESN'T MATTER EITHER WAY.

Ilu2. |D;;; Sorry about that. I had actually sort of wanted to throw in some rainbow text and whatnot, but I'm goddamn lazy. Also, the site was down the last time I checked. So yes, you just get big font and blinkies.

Mrr, I could've sworn I answered this already, sorry!

1. Yep, one soul-having guy here.
2. Mello's impatient, abrasive, very smart, and full of himself, but he also has an inferiority complex, and a lot of what he does is for the purpose of proving that he's better than Near. He tends to react to things emotionally first, but his intelligence (usually) tempers his impulsiveness. Physically, of course, there's the crispiness. >;D For a color, I'd pick red.
3. Nope.
4. Mello has definitely ordered/arranged/otherwise been responsible for deaths; most directly, the members of Near's team he had taken out with the death note, even if he didn't write the names himself. I'd count the majority of those people as innocents, since they were federal agents just doing their jobs. I've also always assumed Mello had to personally kill some people while making his way up in the ranks of the LA Mafia. At least some of those people were not innocents per se, but just guys who happened to be in his (or the Mafia's) way. I don't know if the fact that he's met a shinigami and touched one of the notebooks makes a difference, but he has.

Yep, that's what I figured. I think he would claim there's a war on, he had to, blahblahKiracakes, but no one made him take that route.

And since you mentioned doctors:

Dr. Nozomi Weaver:

1.) Yes.
2.) She's an ice queen. That's the best way to describe her. She's very cool and professional, and doesn't show a whole lot of emotion most of the time.
3.) The Healing Touch ability she has is passed down via blood - it can't be learned, only those who are descended from the Greek God Asclepius can use it. So. Possibly yes?
4.) Nope. She's done things she regrets, but her intentions were always good.

Huzzah! Then a witch, she shall be.

Javert:
1) Yes.
2) Javert is intelligent, patient, fearless, and completely dedicated to the law, but he also has a constant undercurrent of snark about him at all times. His soul would probably be dark blue.
3) Nope!
4) Probably not. He's been responsible for deaths, but he's a cop and has never killed anyone for fun and/or profit.

Soma:
1) Yes.
2) Disciplined, reserved, and very naive. Soma's been kept separate from other people for most of her life, so she's more than a little socially inept. She thinks she has a good idea of what's what when she really doesn't. Her soul is probably a light yellow with a faint touch of pink.
3) Nope. Soma has enhanced abilities, but they aren't magic.
4) No. Soma's a soldier, but she has yet to actually kill anyone, and if she did it'd probably be in the line of duty.

I should've done the others too XD

[identity profile] zalia.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yohji:
1) Yes
2) Depressed, cynical, angry. And his soul would probably be some kind of dark green I think
3) Nope
4) Ah, possibly? Yohji is an assassin so he has killed a lot of people. Weiss are only supposed to kill evil/corrupt people, but I figure he's taken out innocent guards at times too. He hasn't started killing people for fun yet though.

Kenren:
1) Yes
2) Bored, amused, fierce and loyal. He lives for entertainment and he hates boring things. His soul would probably be sky blue and cherry blossom
3) Nope.
4) Probably not. He has killed other gods, but purely in self defence, although he has some of the memories of his future incarnation, Gojyo, who has killed a lot of youkai. They were trying to kill him, but there were an awful lot of them...

Tsukasa:
1) Yes
2) Slightly um... off. He's in the body of a video game character, and the body is male while Tsukasa is actually female so maybe some kind of dissonance there? His sould would probably be a dove grey colour.
3) He is a mage in The World, so the body that he's in kind of comes with magic as standard? But he isn't actually a mage in real life.
4) Nope.

Cissnei:
1) Yes
2) Light-hearted, flirty, but with an edge Her colour would probably be dark grey I think.
3) Nope
4) Yes. Very yes XD She's been trained as a professional killer and doer of dirty deeds for ShinRa since she was about 8 years old. She's killed, maimed and probably tortured a lot of people. She doesn't particularly like it though, althoug that's more because she never got her own chance to do what she wanted in life.

SOME GEASS SPOILERS

[identity profile] golgibody.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Suzaku:

1) Yup.

2) Umm, Suzaku acts very sweet and unassuming in most social situations, but he has a nasty streak in him and a certain capacity for irrational anger and casual cruelty. He's incredibly impulsive, driven by his emotions, and tends to be very hypocritical. He's also constantly torn apart by guilt, hates himself and is constantly putting everyone's needs before his own. He's very protective of the people he loves, but at the same time he can be completely blind to the points of view of others. Umm, I don't think his soul would have any particularly defining characteristics, and the color would probably be red.

3) Nope, not a witch.

4) I. . . don't really know. He killed his father when he was ten, because he thought he could stop people from dying needlessly (his father was supporting a hopeless war). He regretted it horribly and spent his whole life trying to repent, so that and his reason for killing him might make up for it a bit? He's killed a hell of a lot of people in battle, but while they were the enemy he personally felt they didn't deserve to die and that what he was doing was wrong, and in part he was doing it for the sake of power. (Though he only wanted power so he could help people.) There were probably also some bystander casualties in those battles, too. He also killed about ten million completely innocent people, but he was forced to by Lelouch's Geass, so he really couldn't be considered accountable for that. On the other hand, he himself feels accountable. SO I DON'T KNOW, HE'S COMPLICATED.

Re: SOME GEASS SPOILERS

Okay, that works. Basically, I guess he's committed sins but he's not actually evil. So. Stain. Thingie.

[identity profile] itneverwas.livejournal.com 2010-04-12 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally forgot about this. WHOOPS. Anyway, none of them are patients but in case they run into one another, I'll fill this out. BTW, the video's not working.

Scar
1. Yes.
2. Scar is a narcissistic individual with a very large ego. He's bitter, envious and isn't one to recognize his own flaws (other than lacking strength). He's also sarcastic and manipulative. At the same time, he's also a coward and fears death. Defining physical trait would be his namesake; the scar over his left eye. The color...I imagine it to be green. You know...envy and greed and such?
3. No. He's just a regular lion.
4. Scar killed his brother just so he could take the throne to the Pride Lands himself. So I think he does?

Yakushiji Tenzen
1. Yes.
2. Though he appears to be fairly pragmatic at first glance, he's actually incredibly angry and vengeful. Most of his life revolves around taking vengeance, so yeah. He's also manipulative and sadistic. However, he can easily be frustrated when things won't go his way. Also, he's confident - even arrogantly so - because he's nigh immortal. He revels in chaos and is quite ruthless. I don't think there are any defining physical traits. Color would be...blood red? Dark red? Idk.
3. No.
4. Yes. He's a ninja, so it's a no-brainer that he has killed people. What would set him off against canonmates is the fact that sometime prior the the start of the series, he wanted to make sure two rivaling clans would keep hating one another. This resulted in quite the amount of deaths and the nigh annihilation of one of these clans, something Tenzen was doubtlessly aware of before executing the plan. During the span of the series itself - which revolves around two rivaling ninja clans sending forward ten warriors each to fight to the death, these names were listed upon a scroll - he's responsible for quite the amount of bloodshed. Other than those rivaling ten ninja, he killed ninja that weren't even included upon the scroll, though that was mostly in order to further their victory as they were in the way, so to speak. Additionally, he even dragged innocent bystanders in one fight just to torment his opponent and ensure victory. He's also a friggin' sadist that revels in chaos, but all that was in the name of vengeance against the clan he hates.

Xemnas
1. Yes. Just not a heart.
2. Empty, because he's a Nobody. He does seek power, though, and he does everything to get it. He's manipulative, cunning and even ruthless. I don't think there are any defining traits.
3. I think yes? Nobodies are "born" with magic and control a certain element. Xemnas controls Nothingness.
4. Very yes. Even when I leave away everything that happened before he became a Nobody, as the leader of Organization XIII he's responsible for shrouding worlds in darkness. Countless people have been killed/turned to Heartless just so he could take their heart. And all that to complete Kingdom Hearts. Unlike other Nobodies, it wasn't even for the sake of a heart, only to gain power.

[identity profile] voodooanonymous.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Yes

2) Evil, greedy, lustful, wrathful, all-around selfish and horrible. He's a bad guy. He's perfectly capable of exacting elaborate and precise long-term plans, but prefers getting down and dirty and murdering some folks in person when he can get the chance. Also, it may just be my obsession, but I think his soul needs a wild beard. Not only does it transform with him - becoming a beard of fire at one point - but the first time he's banished, his followers are able to revive him because his still-wriggling ghostly beard survived. I'd say it's a part of his soul. Colour would be either green, the colour of voodoo in Monkey Island (and his captured essence has been shown to be green), or purple, for being a witch (and that being the equivalent of voodoo in Soul Eater), or red for his Kishin-ness.

3) I don't know if he counts as a witch entirely, since he was born an ordinary human, but he has been transformed - reborn if you will - and there are abilities granted to him in each of the forms. And he's definitely stolen voodoo powers to make himself stronger. Also, I can't remember if it's actually stated in Monkey Island 2 (don't want to replay until the Special Edition comes out >.>) or if it's just fanon, but the MI wiki states that because he's upsetting the natural balance by stealing voodoo and not sacrificing to the spirit world in return, he is becoming less human and destabilizing himself the more powerful he gets. Whether it's directly because of the magic or not, he's definitely crazy and trends toward chaos and destruction, and was an exceptionally horrible pirate in that regard before the voodoo (of course, according to the enigmatic Voodoo Lady, he was always destined to take that power).

Oh yeah, I guess it's probably also relevant that his soul was temporarily purged of voodoo and (supposedly) evil, and he was an ordinary human until he reclaimed it, so I guess that leans him more heavily toward corruption rather than being a straight-up witch. And now that I think about it, I have him stripped of all his voodoo powers in the institute. But under normal circumstances there's definitely more machine than man evil voodoo than human soul there.

4) Okay, wow, yes. I mean, he basically is a Kishin (aside from the paranoia/insanity angle). In addition to being turned into a powerful demon, he's killed countless innocents for fun and profit, built a family-friendly amusement park over the mouth of hell to make the conversion of innocent souls into an undead army more efficient, and while he hasn't been shown to actually eat others' souls, he has sucked voodoo energy directly from the afterlife to increase his power, at which point he refers to himself as a god. In other words, a demon god.

So, uh, have fun with Stein freaking out if he ever sees LeChuck parading around.

Lana Skye (not currently his patient but I was checking my info posts and figured I should just go ahead and list her)

1. Regular human, so yes, soul.
2. She's got something wrapped around her soul to keep people out. Walls, briars, ice -- any of those metaphors work pretty well. I'm going to go with briars, in the same brown as her suit (see most of her icons). The soul underneath -- sunshine yellow.
3. Nope.
4. Probably not. She's assisted in covering up a murder of an innocent (and will do so a second time), but she hasn't killed directly. She's also put people on death row, some of which she knowingly used forged or otherwise dubious evidence to convict.
