This is the official Lounge post for players who want to plan out specific Nightshift threads ahead of time in order to foster desired kinds of interaction and character development. Allow us to stress that SCHEDULING THREADS IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.

This post is meant for people who have no pre-arranged plans and are looking for a nightshift partner for their character. If you already have plans and are just looking to confirm them, do not post here. Use the confirmation post for that.

Please use the following template when commenting. We suggest bolding important points so that people who are scanning the post can get a quick idea of what you're looking for. You might also want to use the usernames of the characters whose attention you want so that people can easily ctrl+F to find things relevant to their interests. Your request can range from as vague as "I want my character to make new friends!" to as specific as "I want my character to thread with a megalomaniacal antagonist, if possible."

SUBJECT LINE: character name(s)
Character:
Interaction/Development Wanted: (what kind of plotting/interaction you're looking for, any specific characters you're already going to be threading with, characters you'd like to thread with, etc.)
When: (be as specific or un-specific as you want)

Hello again, everyone! As discussed on the previous post about Drug Trials, several of your characters have the opportunity to receive either a Drug Trial sticker or a non-canon weapon of your choice (subject to mod approval).

This is a list of everyone who will be affected this NS:

Yuri Petrov - [personal profile] voiceofthanatos
Gren Eckener - [personal profile] stellarregions
Sangamon Taylor - [personal profile] toxicspiderman
Karkat Vantas [personal profile] thisisyourgod
Zero - [personal profile] dividedby
Gabriel - [personal profile] impudentsongbird
Ryuugamine Mikado - [personal profile] ofthemotions
Ryusei Sakuta - [personal profile] asteroidbelt
Nakatsukasa Tsubaki - [personal profile] thecamellia
Murphy Pendleton - [personal profile] stop_the_rain

If your character was selected, then the nurse will inject them with a drug that, according to the staff, will prevent them from catching whatever strange bug has been going around among the patients lately. As far as they're concerned, there is nothing fishy or unsavory about what they're doing. Of course, your character knows better...or do they? If not, they're in for a nasty surprise, ke ke ke.

Once your character has been injected with the drug, you will have several options. First, you'll be asked whether you'd like to roll for the opportunity to have some of your character's powers restored for 1 Nightshift. It would only be one ability (if they have a ton of powers), and it might need to be limited even then if it's the sort of things that could take the building down.

However, unsuccessfully rolling for powers puts the character at a 1 in 50 chance of having a fatal reaction to the drug. They will become very ill and suffer a painful death that Nightshift. Similar to the rules for coliseum deaths, they will eventually wake up in the morgue with some kind of permanent penalty (details would be discussed with the mods).

If your character doesn't get their powers back and suffers no fatal reaction, OR you choose to skip the power roll entirely, an NPC mod will randomize from the following list of side-effects:

1. Hallucinate monsters for a 24-hour period. They won't be constant hallucinations, but may crop up at inconvenient times. A character may only see glimpses of horrific creatures, or they might think they're about to come under an all-out attack.

2. Hear voices for a 24-hour period. It can be the voice of a family member or loved one, a crying child, or a foe from the past. They may say disparaging things, that there's no point in trying to escape, that they're too weak to do anything, etc. They might cry, wail or scream like they're in great pain or dying. Or maybe even both.

3. Zombie virus until the end of the following NS. (One part of body begins to decay, and character has the urge to munch on other characters. If character has already experienced the zombie virus in Doyleton, it returns in the same place it did before.) They can pass it onto other patients as well (their infection will also last until the end of the following NS).

4. Brainwashed for a full 24-hour period (same rules as DS 45's Real Life Event)

5. If your character touches another character ANY TIME during the next 24 hours, they will be assaulted by an emotional or memory transference of a traumatic nature. This means that they will feel something the other patient is feeling or get flashes of an upsetting memory of theirs. The severity and length of this will depend on how long the touch lasted, similar to the phantasm guidelines.

6. Relive parts of a personal traumatic memory over the course of a 24-hour period.

7. Develop an intense fear of the dark for 24 hours.

8. Constantly hear threadmates say ominous or threatening things for a 24-hour period, even though they may be saying something completely innocuous.

9. Followed by the ghost of a loved one, acquaintance or enemy for 24 hours. It won't physically trail after, but rather abruptly appear in different places throughout the day.

10. Have the urge to murder someone for the rest of the Nightshift.

11. Slowly change into an Institute monster throughout the rest of the Nightshift (details worked out with mods).

Please note that characters would not start exhibiting their symptoms until Nightshift has officially started. In other words, regardless of what the drug is supposed to do to your character, the reaction would not manifest until dinner shift has ended.

For each character who takes a drug, NPC mods will roll 2 numbers and present the player with a choice of what they would rather have their character affected with. For example, an NPC mod could roll both options 6 and 10, and the player could choose whether to have their character 1) relive parts of a painful memory or 2) have the urge to murder someone for the rest of the nightshift.

Rx Stickers gained from this event will be placed on a patient's uniform the following shift, provided eligible players comment to the Pin Approval Post.

Weapons gained from this event will automatically appear in their possessions box at the start of the next Dinner Shift, provided eligible players discuss the details and receive approval from a mod.

Once your character is about to test one of the drugs, please leave a comment using the following template, and an NPC mod will be more than happy to randomize for you.

Subject Line: RANDOMIZE
Name/Handle: Self-explanatory.
Character: [Character name] [livejournal.com profile] _username_here
Thread: Day 67: Dinner
Do You Want to Try for a Returning Power Roll/Death Roll?: Answer yes or no.
Pin or Weapon? If you choose a weapon, please explain what kind you'd like so a mod can review your request.

If you have any questions or concerns, please put “QUESTION” in the subject line for easier visibility. Court, Claire, or myself will answer as soon as possible. Alternatively, you're free to contact us over AIM, plurk or E-mail.

Thank you very much, and enjoy! 8)

As some of you might already know, we have a second, completely optional event planned for tonight. Some of the veterans might remember this from before, and we hope our newbies will enjoy it just as much! That's right, it's none other than...

THE PORTALS EVENT!

PREMISE
Each time your character opens a door tonight, they will discover that it does not, in fact, lead to the area that they originally thought. Instead, each group going through a door will be suddenly transported to a completely random area, never knowing where, exactly, they might end up in the Institute… or perhaps even outside of it. This might work out very well for them or very poorly, but one thing's for sure: they'll go through the night very, very confused.

For some of the patients, the scope of the event might end here, but some might get a little (un)luckier during their travels. In fact, each time a group goes through a portal, there will be a 1/8 chance that the group will end up in the home world of a group member. Of course, it won't be permanent, and there will be enough limitations to assure the characters that they are still very far from escaping, but that hopefully won't make the experience any less shaking.

DETAILS. ALL PLAYERS MUST READ IN FULL. )

REGARDING SPECIAL COUNSELING TONIGHT:
Special Counseling is scheduled for tonight. However, like last time, the scenario has the potential to be unfair to SCers, as there'd be no telling whether or not any groups of characters would show up in areas long enough to actually be viable victims. For that reason, we're going to be switching to M-U for this Nightshift. If you're interested, keep an eye out for the upcoming poll within the next 24 hours or so!

REGARDING CHARACTERS WHO END UP JUMPING PORTALS ALONE FOR WHATEVER REASON:
If your character starts hopping through portals alone, and you would like for them to join another character or a group of characters, you are welcome to request that the NPC mods combine your next portal randomization roll with your chosen group. For example, let's say Sora is going through portals by himself, and Court wants him to end up with another existing group that is also participating in the portal event (let's say Yuri and Riley). It would be possible for Court to ask an NPC moderator to combine her roll with her chosen group's next roll. So, instead of rolling for Sora, and then rolling for Yuri and Riley, the NPC moderator could roll one time for all 3 characters. When they pass through their respective doors, they will all wind up in the same room together.

----

That should be all the important stuff! Given the nature of the event and all the logistics that we'll be dealing with, there are probably other situations and scenarios we haven't addressed here. If you're unsure or confused about something, please feel free to ask any questions you might have and we will try our best to answer them! However, please try to keep them to issues that you are relatively sure would occur and be relevant to your character or to the player body in general, as we unfortunately have limited time in which to answer questions. ;;

NPC MODS: We will be posting a mod-specific information post to [dreamwidth.com profile] damned_mods shortly.

Anyway, that's the event! Although it was tempting to spring it on you guys as a last-minute surprise, I thought it would be best to let everyone know now so you guys could plan and discuss accordingly over on the Plot Posts. We hope that you all have fun with it and are looking forward to some surprises! Thank you for taking the time to read everything, and we hope to tackle any problems or issues that may arise.

It's almost tragic to be doing this on a nightshift with so much cool stuff going on, but finals are coming and I've got a lot of deadlines in the near future, so I'm calling a hiatus for Harpuia continuing through this NS. I'll back for dayshift once school's not putting so much pressure on.
