Hey there, gracious mods! I just had a quick question concerning written language laws. If Kio, whose main language is Japanese, tries to teach Ophelia, whose main language is English, how to read, what would happen? My guess is that the characters he writes would come out as their English equivalents, but that the explanations he gives to her about to the characters wouldn't change, which would probably cause some amount of confusion for them both. Is this right, or would something else happen?

Could someone please explain to me how written names work with the language laws? I've read the rules, but from what I understand (from how it's been played so far), although names are not "translated" out loud, when written, they are for the sake of other characters being able to read them. As in, um... when ZEX writes his name, it is "ZEX" and not whatever writing he uses normally.

Soo... I was thinking. It was agreed beforehand that my Mikami doesn't have the Shinigami Eyes, but with all the talk of the translation-problem going on IC on the bulletin, I had the thought that maybe for Mikami, first languages would be translated, except for when a name is put down. I'm not sure if it would be considered a power or not... just that names/nicknames used in reference to other people would remain untranslated. This would mean that names in languages aside from Japanese or in the Latin alphabet would be undecipherable to him. As it stands, it'd be pretty useless aside from being a curiosity. However, given the importance he and his canon places on how names are spelled....

I've never considered it before, but now that he has the chance to really notice and think on it... if I do it, now would be the time to start. ^^

I've not been feeling too well the last two days, so I've unintentionally neglected posting duties for my characters (Kunzite and Starscream). To all those involved, I'm sorry, and if you're up for it (Lugnut @ Breakfast, Kio & Forte @ Sun Room/Showers), perhaps we can do some backthreading? I don't conceive of anything major happening to either character that would warrant this being a problem ^^;

As for my lunch dates; posting is going to be slow as Jen and I are going to be in Miami for Thanksgiving, and I don't forsee access to the internets being frequent. Thus, when I post, I don't know how substantive it will be, and so it might require some backthreading to get things rolling there, too.

Very sorry for slowness/nonexistence this shift. IRL hit unexpectedly hard. :/ Backthreading or anything is welcome, of course, and I'll do my best when I can get to the computer (mornings and late nights mostly...)
